Shahla Azizi

Shahla Azizi is a recognized leader at the intersection of national defense, government strategy, and community advocacy. With more than two decades of distinguished service spanning the federal government, the defense consulting industry, and the Afghan American community, she exemplifies the mission of the Afghan American Professional Network: to elevate Afghan American voices, talent, and leadership across every sector of American public life.

Shaping National Defense Policy and Strategy

Shahla built her professional reputation supporting some of the most consequential programs within the U.S. defense enterprise. As a senior consultant at Booz Allen Hamilton, she advised multiple Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) program offices, where her work directly influenced decisions during the annual Defense Authorization and Appropriations process. By leveraging PPBE (Planning, Programming, Budgeting, and Execution) systems and rigorous data analysis, she helped ensure that Navy and Marine Corps priorities were effectively communicated to and aligned with Congressional mandates, work that required equal parts technical mastery and political acumen.

Her contributions extended well beyond budget analysis. Shahla led contract management and compliance efforts for mine warfare and acoustic systems programs, ensuring that multi-million-dollar defense initiatives stayed on schedule, within budget, and fully aligned with federal requirements. A standout achievement was her coordination of the Long Range Aerial Delivered Maritime Mine (LRADMM) Industry Day, through which she drove a 30% increase in industry engagement, a result that accelerated the program's path to contract readiness and strengthened the Navy's supplier relationships.

A Career of Public Service

Before her work in the defense consulting sector, Shahla served for eight years as a Contract Specialist with the United States Department of Defense, gaining foundational expertise in federal acquisition regulations and government contracting that would define her career. This grounding in government service instilled in her a deep commitment to accountability, compliance, and mission-driven leadership, values she has carried into every role since.

Championing Afghan American Women

Shahla's professional achievements are matched by her tireless advocacy for her community. As President of the Afghan American Women Association (a-awa.org), she led initiatives to advance Afghan women's rights, organized events to foster cultural awareness, and created mentorship and career development programs for underserved women and youth. Her leadership of the Association reflects a lifelong belief that professional success carries with it an obligation to open doors for others.

It is this same conviction that brought her to the founding of the Afghan American Professional Network, an organization she helped create to ensure that Afghan Americans have the networks, resources, and visibility they deserve in American professional life.

Shahla holds a Master of Business Administration from Strayer University, where she specialized in leadership, organizational behavior, and strategic decision-making. She is also a certified Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR) professional and holds a DoD CON Level 2 acquisition certification, reflecting her deep expertise in government contracting law and policy. She is fluent in English, French, and Dari.
