Mentorship
Where APN members give back, and where emerging professionals and students find their footing. Find your mentor, offer your guidance, or connect as a student.
Finding the right mentor can change everything
You don’t need a connection to an APN member to request mentorship. The mentorship program is open to Afghan-American professionals and students at any career stage who are looking for guidance from an experienced practitioner.
APN mentors are practicing professionals in law, medicine, finance, engineering, public service, entrepreneurship, and more. They have agreed to invest their time and experience in the next generation, because that is part of what it means to be in this network.
When you submit a mentorship interest form, the Mentorship Committee will work to match you with a mentor whose background and expertise align with your goals. Matching is thoughtful, not automated, expect a personal introduction.
What to expect
- Personal introduction from the Mentorship Committee
- Introductory conversation with your matched mentor
- Structure is flexible, designed to fit both schedules
- Both mentor and mentee can request a new match if needed

Your experience is the program
As an APN member, you have the option, and the standing, to mentor emerging professionals and students from the Afghan-American community. You are not required to participate in mentorship, but those who do describe it as one of the most meaningful aspects of their membership.
The Mentorship Committee handles intake and matching. You set the time commitment and the engagement structure. There is no fixed program format, the goal is a genuine, useful relationship, not a bureaucratic process.
If you are an active APN member and want to be listed as available for mentorship, update your profile in the member platform or reach out to the Mentorship Committee directly.
Your career starts with the right conversations
You are building something. The professionals in APN have been where you are, navigating career choices, building credibility, and finding their footing across industries that don’t always have clear playbooks for Afghan-American professionals.
APN’s Student Member tier is designed specifically for students and early-career professionals who want to connect with the network before they are deep into their career. If you are nominated by a current member, you can join APN and participate in the mentorship program as a member.
If you are not yet connected to a current APN member, the mentorship request form is the right place to start. The Mentorship Committee works with students whether or not you are a member.
